Six common surface treatments

Many metal and industrial products are exposed to moisture, chemicals, heat, and friction during their lifetime, which can cause damage – but surface treatments help protect these materials, extending their lifespan.

1 . Powder Coating

Powder coating is a process in which powdered paint particles are sprayed onto a surface using an electrostatic charge. Powder coating is popular because it produces a thick, even coating that is resistant to scratches, chipping, fading, and corrosion.

2. Anodising

Anodising is an electrochemical process mainly used on aluminium, converting the material into a durable oxide layer that becomes part of the metal itself rather than sitting on top of it. Anodising also allows dyes to be absorbed into the surface, making coloured anodised finishes possible.

3. Electroplating

4. Galvanising

5. Painting Coating

Painting and liquid coating involve applying liquid paint or protective coatings onto a surface.

6. Brushing and Polishing

Brushing and polishing are mechanical finishing processes that improve the texture and appearance of a surface. As well as improving appearance, polishing can also reduce surface roughness and improve cleanliness in industries such as food processing and medical manufacturing.
